Walking the Labyrinth

A labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness, combining the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. It represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world.

“I feel as though God walks beside me when I walk the labyrinth,” says parishioner Peggy Montgomery. “It’s a wonderful spot to meditate, to address problems and to let go of them. One person said that walking the labyrinth helps untangle the confusions of thoughts and anxieties; another said that walking the labyrinth in prayer helps to let go of worries and concerns; and others see it as symbolic of us as pilgrims walking our spiritual journeys.”

A labyrinth is an enclosed path with a single route winding toward a center point, where it then reverses and returns. There is one way in and one way out. Once you have started to walk, you are on a journey to the center. There is no need to rush. Simply relax and let what happens happen. It’s a journey that you walk at your own pace, each one of your steps unique, every turn your own. Whatever you experience is part of the journey. Walk, search, and follow your path with an open mind and an open heart.

The labyrinth at Saint Michael & All Angels is made of inlaid concrete stones and is seven circuits .It’s outside so it can be walked any time day or night. It's a neighborhood resource that is used regularly by passersby.

Our labyrinth is listed on the Labyrinth Locator run by The Labyrinth Society.

The labyrinth is located outdoor and open to the public 24/7. We ask that quiet be respected during our worship times.
