Update on June 21 meeting with the Diocese.

The Rector Search Committee met on Tuesday, June 21, with the Rev. Cn. Thomas Quijada-Discavage of the Diocese, who provided us with the files for our candidates. He asks that the committee not divulge the number of candidates.

Committee members will be reading these files and will meet July 19 to reflect together and move forward with the assessments and interviews.

Canon Tom noted two recent trends in rector searches. One is a trend, probably caused by COVID, for rectors to be less likely to put their names out as interested in particular parishes. This trend means that rectors who do express interest are serious candidates and bodes well for our search. The other trend is towards a historically huge number of openings: Our diocese now has 46. The reasons for all these openings are demographic and social. Many Baby Boom rectors are reaching the mandatory retirement age of 72. Others with 30 years in ministry are retiring early because of pandemic exhaustion.

The Rector Search Committee is eager to begin exploring the candidates' materials: a letter of introduction, a CV or resume, and responses to the questions in the parish profile.
