Beware Email Scams
“See, I am sending you out like sheep into the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.” (Matt. 10:16)
You may have received an email message appearing to come from The Rev. Susan Pinkerton or another member of clergy asking for donations, gift cards, or private contact. Do not reply to these messages. Instead, contact the clergy separately by creating a new email message or call by phone to verify the sender's request. Neither Susan+ nor Barbara+ would send email such as this.
See the screenshot below. This is one example, correctly flagged as dangerous. This is a very old scam that pre-dates the Internet. All clergy have imposters like this trying to take advantage of the generosity of churchgoers.
Your clergy's email accounts have not been hacked. This is simple impersonation.
Your clergy's correct email addresses are:
The Rev. Susan Pinkerton
susan.pinkerton@stmikescdm.org
Office: 949-644-0463 ext. 11
The Rev. Dr. Barbara Stewart
barbarastewart001@gmail.com
We have partnered with BreezeCHMS.com for church office management, including safe online giving and our parish directory.
Breeze uses an HTTPS SSL encrypted connection in a PCI-compliant data center for data sent back and forth. This is the same standard used for transferring credit card data. An encrypted connection protects against malicious attacks and means that only the correct recipient is able to read the data. Data at rest is stored in the cloud and is also encrypted. To help keep parishioner data safe, Breeze routinely undergoes penetration testing to help keep your data safe.
Breeze partners with Stripe for payment processing. Stripe is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1, the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry.
Breeze has never experienced a security breach that has exposed client data. We definitely take extensive measures to protect the sensitive information of our organizations!
Thank you and stay safe out there!
